How to color coordinate the interior?

personKamil Šenk

Properly chosen colors in the interior can not only influence our mood, but also make the space cozier and create a feeling of well-being. By choosing the right colors and their combinations, you can turn an ordinary room into a home in a short time. If you are thinking about how to harmonize the color shades in your apartment or house, read this article, where we have prepared a few tips for you on how to achieve this.

Choose a main color tone

Each space should have one predominant color that will determine the atmosphere of the entire room. The main color is most often used on walls, floors or larger pieces of furniture. For smaller rooms, we recommend light and neutral shades, such as white, cream or light gray, which will optically enlarge the space. Larger rooms can also handle darker tones, such as deep gray, green or blue.

Create color contrasts

Contrasts in color matching will give the room the right dynamics. If you have light walls, try complementing them with dark furniture or colorful accessories. When choosing contrasting colors, follow the rule 60:30:10 = 60% of the space should be the main color, 30% the complementary color and 10% the color accents. For example, light gray walls will make up 60%, a dark blue sofa 30% and gold or wooden decorations 10%.

Get inspired by nature

Natural color combinations never go out of style. Earthy brown, beige, green and sand tones have a calming effect, so you can never go wrong when choosing them. In addition, they complement natural materials such as wood or stone perfectly. If you want to bring life to the room, colors such as deep green, yellow or pink will instantly brighten up your space.

Don't be afraid of neutral shades

Neutral colors such as white, gray or beige are the ideal base for any interior. The advantage is their versatility. To achieve coziness, combine different shades of one color or add textile accessories such as cushions, rugs or curtains. Wooden acoustic panels are also modern and amazing in the interior today.

Don't forget about color accents

Color accents will liven up any interior. They can be textiles, paintings, candles, flower pots or other accessories that you can easily change according to the season. Bold pieces of furniture are also a popular choice.

Consider the function of the room

Each room has its own specific function. Muted and soothing colors such as light blue, lavender or other pastel tones are suitable for the bedroom. In the living room, you can use warmer shades such as beige, brown or brick red, which will create a pleasant atmosphere. In the kitchen and dining room, on the other hand, use yellow or green, which stimulate the appetite.

Think about lighting

Colors look different in natural daylight and in artificial lighting. Before you make your final choice, try out how the color changes throughout the day. You can use richer tones in rooms with plenty of natural light, while lighter colors are more appropriate for darker spaces.

Don’t be afraid to experiment! With the right colors and materials, you can transform your home into a place that is not only beautiful but also cozy.
